Foot Surgery for Ingrown Toenail and Other Concerns
Many patients fear foot surgery and try to delay their procedures. But even famous patients often need to go under the knife. Years ago, NBA star Rudy Gobert underwent a small surgical procedure for an ingrown toenail. He’d been suffering from foot inflammation as a result of the toenail, lasting only seven minutes in games due to the pain. “I just need a very small surgery,” Gobert said, “and I’ll be good (in) two weeks.”
In more recent days, Queen Silvia of Sweden underwent foot surgery for bunion removal. Seen at a funeral walking with crutches, she’s reported to be recovering nicely.
If you are suffering from severe pain due to an ingrown toenail, bunion, or other concerning condition, you should request a foot surgery consultation at Louetta Foot and Ankle Specialists. Dr. Bachmann and our team of doctors can assess your condition and provide you with the right treatment and care for your feet.
Ingrown Toenails Causes
Ingrown toenails occur when a toenail grows sideways into the bed of the nail, causing pain, swelling, and possibly infection.
There are a number of risk factors for ingrown toenails. Some include cutting your nails too short, participating in strenuous sports, diabetes, obesity, and fungal infection. Some are genetically predisposed to ingrown nails, although wearing ill-fitting or damp shoes can exacerbate the problem.
Foot Surgery and Other Treatment Options
There are a number of steps you can take to treat ingrown nails:
-Let your toenails grow out
-Soak the toes in hot water with antibiotic soap or Epsom salts
-Placing a piece of cotton under the affected nail may allow the toe to grow up instead of into the nail bed
