We now offer the latest technology available for the treatment of unsightly fungal toenail infections! When you have a fungal toenail infection, it may take months to clear up.
And, during that time, your nail will not look its best. Symptoms of a fungal toenail include changes to your nail color (it could appear white, black, yellow or even green!) With this infection, your nail gets thick. Fungal toenails can also change shape, and trimming your nails is a challenge. Finally, fungal toenails can leave you with pain, especially when you wear shoes. But, with conventional treatments, finding pain relief can take months or years. That’s why our specialists offer a faster fungal toenail treatment.
Treatment Options for Fungal Toenails
Current treatment options include prescription topical ointments and oral drugs. But both of those dated methods come with limited success rates. That’s why, in our Spring, TX and Tomball, TX podiatry practice, we deliver laser treatment for a fungal toenail. The laser offers several advantages over less modern alternatives.
- Safe, painless treatment
- No side effects or drugs
- No liver enzyme test required
- No recovery time, just walk in and walk out
- Only 45 minutes required to treat toenails on both feet
Even if you’ve seen laser treatment offered by other podiatrists, we invite you to learn more about Louetta’s fungal toenail laser. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, our new laser is a powerful 30 watts, compared to 4-6 watt devices used by most podiatrists.
How does the laser work for fungal toenails?
The laser light causes a temporary increase in clear nails, as the laser light passes through the toenail without causing damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. At the time of the procedure, the toenail will not become instantly clear, though, because it does take time to grow out.
Is the procedure painful?
Most people feel no pain. Some people feel a warming sensation.
Is there a recovery period?
No. Just walk in and walk out.
How long does the procedure take?
The laser procedure takes 45 minutes per session. We recommend 3 sessions, plus preventative maintenance periodically.
Will the fungus come back?
We will recommend care techniques to reduce recurrence of the infection. There is a chance of re-infection because the fungus is present everywhere in the environment. Preventative maintenance treatments are also recommended. We also suggest treating your shoes with anti-fungal products in order to prevent reinfection from your footwear.
When can I paint my nails or have a pedicure?
You can apply polish immediately after the laser treatment for fungal toenails. It is important to remove all nail polish and nail decorations the day before your treatment.
Is this covered by my insurance?
If you have a Health Savings Account or Medical HRA, 100% of the cost can be covered. However, in most situations, this procedure is considered aesthetic and therefore health insurance plans do not provide coverage.
Is it FDA cleared?
Yes, it is FDA cleared for the temporary increase of clear nail in patients with Onychomycosis. (This is the technical, medical term we use for fungal toenails.)
KeryFlex Nail Restoration System
For a variety of reasons, some people are much more likely to develop toenail fungus and other conditions that cause the nail to lose its natural appearance. While medicines are available to treat the fungus, these compounds may take some time to be effective and may never restore the nail to its normal appearance.
Still, we know you want your nails to feel AND look their best. For that reason, our pedicurist is trained in a new technique that improves the appearance of nails damaged by fungus and other conditions.
This new technique is the KeryFlex Nail Restoration System. And you can learn more about this technique, as well as laser treatment options, when you come in for a fungal nail treatment consulation.
