Bobcats Small Forward Out with Achilles Injury

jeff-taylorCharlotte Bobcats small forward Jeff Taylor ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg during a game against the Detroit Pistons. Though the severity of the injury is still unknown, it is likely that he’ll have to be out for the rest of the season and possibly more months after that. Taylor started the past eight games for the Bobcats.

“What I relayed to him is it’s unfortunate for him and really unfortunate for his teammates, because he’s a big part of this team,” coach Steve Clifford said. “But his mindset has to be on his career now. And for his career, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

Achilles tendon injuries are common in active individuals and can be debilitating. For assistance with a tendon problem, it is recommended to visit a podiatrist like Dr. Brad Bachmann of Louetta Foot and Ankle Specialists, P.A. Dr. Bachmann can analyze the extent of your injury and give you professional guidance toward getting it healed.

What is the Achilles Tendon?

The Achilles tendon is a tendon that connects the lower leg muscles and calf to the heel of the foot. It is the strongest tendon in the human body, and is essential for making movement possible. Because this tendon is such an integral part of the body, any injuries to it can cause severe difficulties and should immediately be presented to a doctor.

What are the symptoms of an Achilles Tendon Injury?

There are various types of injuries that can affect the Achilles tendon. The two most common are Achilles tendinitis and ruptures of the tendon.

Achilles Tendinitis Symptoms

– Inflammation
– Dull to Severe Pain
– Increased blood flow to the tendon
– Thickening of the tendon

Rupture Symptoms

– Extreme pain and swelling in the foot
– Total immobility

Treatment and Prevention

Achilles tendon injuries are diagnosed by a thorough physical evaluation. Often the doctor will order an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment will involve rest, physical rehabilitation, and in some cases, surgery. However, various preventative measures can be taken to avoid these injuries, such as:

– Thorough stretching of the tendon before and after exercise
